NEW LIFE RESIDENCY is the world's first non-visual residency program for artists. The residency is organized as part of Manifesta 8, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, and will take place this fall in the Region of Murcia, Spain.

For one week each, five artists will be selected to live and work in a dark, visually distorted exhibition space. To support them in their life and work for the week, the artist will collaborate with a local Murcian assistant who is blind.

In cooperation with her/his assistant, the artist will use the one-week residency to create a guided tour of the non-visual space and experience in which s/he is living. The guided tour will take place on the last day of the residency and will be open to the biennial audience. The blind assistant will be the guide of this work in darkness.

All applicants must apply with their precise concept for this guided tour. A tour of a social sculpture, so to speak.

Additional to the guided tour, the five selected concept proposals will furthermore be exhibited in one of the main museum locations of Manifesta 8 and will be on view throughout the biennial from October 7th, 2010 (preview) to January 9th, 2011.

The five residency periods are:
October 4th to October 9th, 2010
October 11th to October 16th, 2010
October 18th to October 23th, 2010
October 25th to October 30th, 2010
November 1st to November 6th, 2010

Selected artists will arrive Sunday, begin their residency Monday and have the final guided tour the following Saturday.

Due to the site-specific nature of the project and its local collaboration, applicants who speak Spanish will be preferred.

Travel, living and production costs will be covered for the selected artists.

APPLICATION DEADLINE is August 15th, 2010.

Nodar Artist Residency Program for 2011: Open call for the presentation of art projects
Artistic Disciplines: Sound Poetry; Vocal Performance; Sound Art; Phonography; Acoustic, Electroacoustic or Electronic Composition / Improvisation; Radio Art; Video Performance

In the rural region of the Portuguese mountain range of Gralheira, where Nodar is located, all knowledge and communication have the human voice as a medium. This region consisted of mountain communities where subsistence agriculture and sheep farming were the dominant activities. In these places electricity, and consequently TV, arrived just about 20 years ago. This fact was enough to give a dense richness to the whole oral discourse... the idiosyncrasy, the puzzling, the subliminal, the accents, issues that increasingly are being more standardized.
Application:
The application is open to art projects centred in the human voice, which work with issues such as the origin, meaning and relationship with the sacred (reconnected to its ancestral meaning of mystery and symbol), the voice as a pivotal element of rituals, customs and superstitions, able to enchant the listener and bring deep changes to the reality, to the communities and territory, the voice as the protagonist of memories, myths, archetypes, folk wisdom handed down through the centuries, or even the voice of everyday, tool for work and life.

15 art projects will be selected to be developed in a series of artist residencies... more

Each application should include the following information:
* A proposal of art project (an abstract of 1.500 characters including spaces + a detailed description including a proposed work methodology and chronology);
* A short artistic biography (900 characters including spaces) and a detailed Curriculum Vitae;
* Web links to audiovisual samples of the artist's past works;
* Project's technical and material requirements;
* Preferred periods for the artist residency (please specify two alternatives).

New Residency Program at 3331 Arts Chiyoda, Tokoyo
3331 Arts Chiyoda is launching a new residency program open to artists, curators and creative practitioners internationally.

With a full range of facilities including accommodation, studio and gallery, creative practitioners have the exceptional opportunity to extend their artistic engagement in the heart of Tokyo. Not only will artists be able to pursue their own individual research and practice, but they will be connected to the extensive network of Tokyo's art scene through the hub that is 3331.

With the energy of the electronics and anime haven of Akihabara right at one's doorstep and the traditional cultures of downtown but a stone's throw away artists will be able to experience all aspects of this kaleidoscopic city from this convenient base. Artists are not only able to spend time in Tokyo, but are able to create work onsite and then finally exhibit what they have developed during their stay, in the distinct setting of 3331 Arts Chiyoda.

We are pleased to be able to offer these facilities to artists who can contribute to the diverse creative expressions of this cosmopolitan metropolis and engage its inhabitants in new ways.

We particularly encourage applications from galleries, museums, universities, arts organizations and funding bodies who are able to recommend and support a number of artists to join this program. We also welcome approaches from artists who are able to secure their own sources of funding. We recommend that artists consider applying in groups of 2-5 in order to reduce the financial responsibility of the individual.

Please note that 3331 is unable to offer financial support to artists in residence in this program. The facilities are ideal to be shared between a group of 3 artists, and can accommodate a maximum of 5 artists if so required. The overall fee for accommodation and other facilities is set and is not affected by the number of people in residence.

We are now calling for applications for this residence program. In order to apply for this program please download:

Open Call for 2010/11 AC Institute, NYC - Our theme is EXCHANGE VALUE
The ascent of exchange value over use value is everywhere asserted. Less attention is paid to the historical plurality of economies, structures, relationships and traditions that make up the many types of exchange. Separate from its role in producing value on the international market, issues of exchange tend to form and inform reception and cultural opinion. Exchange is not exhausted by the continuing extension of its peculiar value form, but persists, inhabiting the life-world at many moments within human organization and understanding.

In 2010 and 2011, the AC Institute takes up the link between exchange and value to explore the different manifestations of each through both open call and invited artists, writers and others. Focusing on experimental, installation, and new media work, AC seeks submissions from contemporary artists, and others, working in any medium. Artists are encourage to submit work either already existing or as-yet unrealized that addresses the interlocking questions of value and exchange; either at the level of social practice, contemporary representation, or both.

Please include the following in the body of your message (not as attachments):
-A short description and/or images of the work you are proposing for our spaces
-Your standard CV and contact information
-Links to your website or other sites where materials could be viewed, if possible Please do not send these items as attachments

About AC Institute:
The AC Institute exists to advance art through investigation, research and practice.
It is a lab for experimentation and a forum for critical discussion. Emphasizing emerging, international, and under-represented artists, the Institute develops projects across disciplines, exhibiting work deploying a variety of strategies for critical, experiential, and performative interventions in the field of contemporary art. In addition to publishing critical writing that pushes conventional expectations of meaning and objectivity, the AC Institute realizes off-site projects taking place at the edge of the art marketplace. Committed to an integrated vision of creative practice, Art Currents creates autonomous spaces to pursue experimental work. The AC institute is non-profit 501(c)3 under the Direction of Holly Crawford.

Since moving to Chelsea in September of 2008, AC has mounted numerous exhibitions and performances, participated in the 2009 Armory show with Critical Conversations in a Limo; collaborated with over 50 artists; and worked with various cultural organizations including Rhizome and Harvestworks to pursue its mission. We provide space, programming support, and certain A/V equipment.

Please see our website for more information: www.artcurrents.org
Submissions should be sent to: submissions@artcurrents.org
