Interdisciplinary & Intercultural Art Project

Artists from Uganda, Germany, Canada and Kenya are inviting you to become a part of EUPA, a collaborative art project that seeks to create a space where people can come together to share stories and experiences to preserve them as living, moving memories that next generations can build on. Eupa means ‘fireplace’ in Ateso, an Eastern Nilotic language that is spoken in parts of Uganda and Kenya – it is a symbol of community, togetherness, and oneness. Therefore, we want you to join the circle and contribute to the sparks we are igniting!

What?
An interdisciplinary art project with artists from Germany, Uganda, and other parts of the world
A multi-layered art piece that uses storytelling and sound to interweave languages with embodied rhythms and memories
A time capsule that preserves the stories that we have found & told, an interactive archive becoming a digital bonfire

Who?
Artists from Germany, Uganda, or other parts of the world
All disciplines
Curiosity around language, sounds, memories, and how they leave imprints on our existences

How?
We are looking for answers to the following questions:

  • What is the most beautiful/your favourite word in your language and why?
  • What is your favourite saying/proverb/joke in your language and why?
  • What is something you would like to pass on to the next generation?

You get to choose how you would like to answer these questions: you can use the language that is closest to your heart, you can speak, sing, or write the answers, you can paint or draw them, you can send us a photograph, a collage, a video, or all of the above combined.

We are looking forward to your stories, experiences, words, languages, colors, and memories!

Please send them to @email or email us with any questions!
