Open Studios by the Alliance for Funded Studios Berlin
Over 120 funded studios at 23 locations are opening their doors, making visible what Berlin would lose if the city's politicians and administration continue to handle this globally unique infrastructure for freelance artists – built up over decades – so negligently.

Additionally, on Saturday, 5 September from 8 pm, they will be winding down the day together and welcome the opportunity to connect with you over a drink at three locations: the acutely threatened studio buildings KM 58 / Karl-Marx-Str. 58, 12043 Neukölln (2nd courtyard, 3rd & 4th floor) and Ohlauer Str. 40, 10999 Kreuzberg (front building, 4th floor), as well as at Zebrahaus / TOP Lab, Schätzelbergstraße 1–3 / Industriestraße 40, 12099 Tempelhof.
Why?
Over the past year, several studio buildings have already lost their funding. Many of the artists working there can no longer afford the unsubsidised rents. Further buildings face a similar fate if the expiring contracts are not renewed immediately – that is, before the elections!
Building owners have asked the Berlin administration for an answer by September at the latest, as they would otherwise need to make alternative plans from 2027 onwards. And that would mean: further buildings with approximately 60 studio spaces would also be lost.
But the government is sitting it out. Bureaucratic complications are left unresolved – or used as a pretext born of political unwillingness? The result is that more and more artists can no longer afford this city.
We protest against the ongoing displacement of artists from Berlin by continuing to work – and we welcome you to our workplaces, our studios!
