May 22, 2026 | bbk berlin introduces its new managing director: Sarah Stührenberg
bbk berlin introduces Sarah Stührenberg as future Co-Executive Director of the non-profit kulturwerk GmbH. The board will also ask the General Assembly in autumn to approve Sarah Stührenberg's appointment as Executive Director of bbk berlin.
Sarah Stührenberg impressed us in the selection process with her openness and her vision for the association and its subsidiaries. She will take on the management of the non-profit kulturwerk GmbH together with Egon Schröder and provide cultural policy and strategic support to the board. Together with Michael Nittel, Executive Director of the non-profit bildungswerk GmbH, the management of bbk berlin's subsidiaries will in future be shared by three people.
Attacks on art and culture present the association and its subsidiaries with growing challenges. bbk berlin sees in Sarah Stührenberg a person who brings the necessary experience to secure and strategically develop the programmes and infrastructure of the kulturwerk. She thereby contributes to the stability that the association needs in these challenging times. Through her involvement in the Berlin Cultural Funding Act and her many years of work at LAFT Berlin – Landesverband freie darstellende Künste Berlin e.V. – she is well-connected in the Berlin cultural landscape and already familiar with the work of an artists' association. These qualifications will benefit the kulturwerk with its artistic workshops and offices, as well as bbk berlin as a professional association with approximately 3,000 members, particularly in light of ongoing cuts to the cultural budget.
We look forward to working together!
