Wibke Behrens assumes the position of the managing director of the bbk berlin

Wibke Behrens was appointed as Managing Director by the Board of the bbk berlin with a large majority of the members on March 19, 2025.

We are delighted that we have been able to fill the position of Managing Director for the bbk berlin. Wibke Behrens convinced us with her concept and vision in a selection process that complied with the rules. Especially in these times, we need stability both internally and externally. In addition to managing the two subsidiaries of the bbk berlin, the non-profit kulturwerk GmbH and the non-profit bildungswerk GmbH, she supports the Board of the bbk berlin in terms of cultural policy and strategy in its major tasks as a professional association with over 3,000 members and represents the bbk berlin externally, for example as a board member of the Berlin Culture Conference.

This includes a clear focus in the Board's work on our profession-specific concerns with a management team that can represent the bbk berlin publicly alongside the spokespersons and ensure clear organizational and communication structures internally.

As we are currently experiencing once again, the attacks on art and culture are highly dynamic. The defining issue of the last six months - the cuts to Berlin's cultural budget - will continue to challenge us enormously well beyond 2027. We must be strong, we must be many and we must unite. In these times, alliances and networking are important. Wibke Behrens is also an asset for us in this respect: she has excellent networks and several years of experience in cultural policy, which will help the bbk berlin and especially its Kulturwerk in the long term.
