Invitation to the Fall Plenum on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, 6:00 pm at Savvy Contemporary Reinickendorfer Str. 17, 13347 Berlin

Dear Independent Arts Community,

We invite everyone who is a part of Berlin’s independent arts community, who would like to get to know it or to support it to our summer plenum:

At the moment, of course, the Speaker’s Circle of the Coalition of the Independent Arts is focused on the budget negotiations for 2024/25. We are looking forward to discussing the state of things with you during the fall plenum.

We recently had our shared Jour Fixe with Rat für die Künste with State Secretary for Culture Sarah Wedl-Wilson and want to tell you about it: what are our goals? What do we want to achieve?

We want to discuss these and other questions with you and also listen to your questions and demands!

We will also report on the other things we have been up to. And we are happy to have the team from PROSA (Project for Developing Artistic Working Spaces) give an update as usual. Finally, the KdFS working groups (AGs) present will report on their activities.

As announced at our summer plenum, we would like to found a new working group, the AG Raumpolitik. You can find all of the information about the AG here:

We are looking for new members of the Speaker’s Circle who are not representatives of the advocacy groups for the respective artistic disciplines, particularly those who are dedicated and work interdisciplinary, as articulated in the statement on our structure: https://www.koalition-der-freien-szene-berlin.de/struktur-der-koalition-der-freien-szene/

“The plenum has the opportunity to elect individuals from the independent arts community to serve in the Speaker’s Circle. Elections and calls for candidacies must be communicated by the Speaker’s Circle with a notice of at least 6 weeks. Suggestions for candidates from the independent arts community must be submitted to the Speaker’s Circle at least 3 weeks before the election and published by the Speaker’s Circle. Those candidates who receive more than half of the votes from the individuals attending the plenum will be elected. If there are more candidates than there are open positions, then those with the most votes will be elected. Speakers are elected for a term of two years and there are no term limits.

We will hold the elections at the winter plenum on February 13, 2024. 

We ask everyone who would like to be a candidate to send a brief statement of motivation and a CV to info@koalition-der-freien-szene-berlin.de by January 15, 2024. An overview of the candidates will be sent with the reminder for the plenum.

There will also still be time to discuss topics from all of you. Or we can all get a drink and continue discussing things informally. You are welcome to send us your topics and questions in advance via email or share them with us at the beginning of the plenum.

Here are the dates for the plena in 2024:

  • Winter Plenum: Tuesday, February 13, 2024
  • Spring Plenum: Wednesday, May 15, 2024
  • Summer Plenum: Friday, September 6, 2024 (followed by summer party)
  • Fall Plenum: Tuesday, 12. November 2024
