During the 2025 German Acting Awards ceremony, the #BerlinIstKultur action alliance was awarded the German Fairness Prize by the BFFS acting union and ver.di FilmUnion. As part of the alliance and sponsor of the Berlin Culture Conference, we at bbk berlin are delighted to receive this special recognition.

“Polygon Picnic” – this year's screening by Media Workshop! Thirty-four artists and users of the Media Workshop will present their audiovisual works over two evenings.

A few weeks ago, bbk berlin reported on the increasing number of coronavirus-related repayment claims affecting many artists in Berlin. The Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB) in particular often demands repayments in mass proceedings without examining individual cases. Last week, as part of the “Strategic Autumn of Solidarity,” our Panel #3 “Muted. Where does the visual arts stand with its artistic freedom—between solidarity, censorship, and public pressure” took place.

From November 3, 2025, to February 26, 2026, visual artists can look forward to a diverse online program with highly qualified instructors, practical courses, and agile knowledge transfer. Now available to book conveniently via Zoom and at affordable rates.

On Saturday, September 27, bbk berlin joined forces with many other artists at the #ProtestFest in front of the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) as part of the #BerlinIstKultur action alliance to protest against the planned cuts.

The cuts in culture continue—this time at the expense of studio funding through the ‘Arbeitsraumprogramm’, which has been successful for over 30 years. The expansion of workspaces for the independent scene has come to a halt, and the existing spaces are at risk.

Third statement by bbk berlin on the cuts in Berlin's cultural budget 26/27 against the visual arts:

The visual arts are indispensable for an open society. Anyone who permanently cuts funding and restricts diversity jeopardizes Berlin's cosmopolitanism.

By signing, you send a powerful signal in favour of preserving and expanding the funded studios and workspaces in Berlin. These places are essential to the independent art and cultural scene: for a diverse city, for liveable neighbourhoods, and for the international appeal of our city. We call on policymakers to secure these spaces permanently, to make funding sustainable, and to ensure fair

The bbk berlin fought for the fund in 2016 as a major achievement for Berlin. Its upcoming abolition is an unacceptable setback, as it dismantles the Berlin model for exhibition fees, even though it has been regarded as a pioneering example nationwide and internationally.
